What does our souls crave?
Pretty simple exercise: close your eyes, feel your heart & remember 5 amazing experiences of your life? I’m sure that for those that have traveled, there will be one experience from your trips.
And that’s what this post is about, to rethink your perspective on traveling and also the way you travel, depending what you want to achieve in life.
Yes, most of us travel when we’re on vacation or for work. But have you consciously thought about the different impact a travel experience can have on your psychology and life?
If you only travel with friends and to party and chill by the beach, the trip will have little impact on the creation of your ideal self. There will be no contributing in enriching your inner leader although it may enrich your soul as you’ll have fun and cool experiences. So there’s nothing against that, I also love doing it.
However, there is another kind of traveling which I do every year, knowing the positive impact is has on my life and future: traveling alone to a place you’ve never been.
The reason for the huge benefits of doing this way of traveling is that you’re consciously putting yourself into situations that will make you grow as a person and enrich your inner leader. Why? 1. you’re getting to a new place. New environments will always spark new thoughts and feelings, which are two of the three key influences that shape our personality. 2. you’ll be in the first place on your own as you’re traveling alone. The consequence is that as we all have the need for connection, you’ll soon want to meet people in order to spend time with them and explore new places.
By constantly meeting new people, what we rarely do in our daily lives, you’re making it impossible for your brain and personality to stay the same. You’ll experience new things, eat different kinds of food, talk about new topics, etc.; all of them contributing to your personal growth.
If you want to take this to the next level, I’d recommend you to travel to a country where most people can’t speak English. I did this when I was 19 years old and I traveled by myself to a small village in China. There were very few experiences where I’ve felt so uncertain and nervous about what was going to happen in certain moments, however, surviving and enjoying these experiences have given me the certainty that no matter what happens, everything will be alright. And these learnings and new personality traits can then be applied in any area of your life, not only traveling.
By making this a routine for my life, I’m securing the aspect of constantly growing and evolving which is what enriches our soul and makes us a leader other people will want to listen to.
Why does this enrich our soul? Remember which moments made you feel most alive and excited about life? Was it when you were sitting on the couch and watching TV? Big thumbs down! It’s when we go out of our comfort zone and live something we’ve never done before. Maybe it’s speaking in front of people, Skydiving, talking to a nice guy or girl in a bar, and so on. These are the moments our soul crave.
We’re human beings. We’re on this world to evolve. Everything is evolution. So make your traveling into an act of evolution and you’ll love it even more! 🙂
