Web3? Crypto? Nowadays, the vast majority of people continue only mentioning the “volatile Bitcoin” asset when Crypto and Web3 come up in a conversation. Big mistake – not only from an investment perspective, but also considering your personal and professional life.
Most of us can still remember the mass adoption of Web2.0, which is the current form of the web. Social Media is one example for a key emergence of Web 2.0. I vividly remember the day I walked up to my dad, who was sitting on the couch and tipping loudly on a grey Blackberry. I said: “Hi dad, you should also get a smartphone so we can talk on WhatsApp”. After a short look on my phone, he answered that those “new web things” on the smartphone are not important and won’t be used by many people either way. One second after, he was back on the Blackberry sending an email.
Who remembers these kind of conversations? I bet you do. Many of us have laughed about “old stars” not getting the “obvious new thing”…
Now, the question is: have you or someone from your closest circle already become an “old star”? Have you invested your time into learning the resulting opportunities of the transition into Web3 & Crypto? Or are you still only referring to Bitcoin, Dogecoin and Shiba when talking about Crypto & Web3?
Web3, in short, is the newest iteration of the Web bringing decentralisation to the future of the internet. I’m amazed about how many of my friends in their 20s, using Social Media on a daily basis, portray their concern with Web3 and tell me that no one is going to meet in the Metaverse or use VR/AR. “We’re good now with our smartphones”. Seems like the same pattern as from my short story, right?
This blog post invites you to think more openly about the emergences coming with the transition into Web3. Decentralised Metaverses, decentralised Web applications, Decentralised Finance (DeFi) – all these market sectors are already being developed and waiting for your contribution. Here, please don’t misinterpret the change of name of Facebook into Meta with Web3 and decentralised Metaverses – two different pair of shoes with differing concerns on each sides without a doubt.
It surely is important to also take the negative implications of immersive technologies, e.g. on our psyche, into account – just to mention one concern. However, if history is here to teach us, we can be certain that every trend will bring its positive and negative sides to the table – giving us the opportunity to either take the responsibility when interacting with new technologies or continue blaming the platforms building such technologies.
Here are the good news: the transition into Web3 is still in an early stage and it offers us the opportunity to contribute to its development while gaining insights into investments with higher returns than investment assets in mature markets. Contributing becomes possible due to the emergence of DAOs in Web3, very different to the centralised applications of the Web2.0 world. DAOs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations), in short, are organisations that work without a centralised leadership position and basically don’t care about what you’ve been up to in your life before when you join.
Thanks to Web3, you are offered the opportunity to simply join a DAO that follows a mission you share and potentially make money depending on the stage of the DAO. DeFi gives us the opportunity to gain access to financial instruments that we may not be able to access depending on our location or life situation. Both can be done anonymously on the web without anyone knowing. There are many more opportunities in the Web3 space that I would love to talk with you about – maybe one day we will – in the Metaverse. 😉
Personally, I’m grateful for getting full-time into Web3 & Crypto and going beyond my early investments in Crypto. Attending ETHDenver 2022, the globally leading Crypto conference arranged by Ethereum, has opened my eyes and heart towards what Web3 really means and how it’s here to shape the current centralised world. Unfortunately & luckily (yes, both), there is still a long way to go with Crypto and Web3 to achieve true decentralisation. However, the overall vision and vibe of the Web3 community is unique, being a place I want to meaningfully contribute to.
Thinking about what next? Feel free to hit me up on any Social Media channel, I’d be happy to talk about what Web3 could bring into your life beyond great ROI on investments. Otherwise, dive straight into the Discord Web3 communities, use DeFi, stake your coins for 100% APYs, buy NFTs, learn about token models, become part of a DAO and most importantly: learn the relevant skills needed to survive Web3 such as using a VPN, understanding smart contracts, identifying scams & Ponzi schemes and much much more. 🙂
Lastly, enjoy this picture with Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, from ETHDenver reflecting my short thoughts about DAOs and Crypto Enthusiasts. 😉
