China is different. It made me a different person. That’s why I loved it so much. I could end this post here, but let me give you some more insights about what I mean.

China unleashed my potential. When I went to China, I was a “normal” guy. I was happy but wasn’t very clear about my future. I just had the feeling I had to go China after also considering Spain, USA and other places. During my time in China I had the privilege to meet my dearest mentor, Sherman.

Meeting him unleashed my potential. He devotes his life to be a professor and mentor and teach everything he learned in his phenomenal life. We went deep. We digged deep inside of me to figure out what my vision for life is. I had already some ideas but we got clear on it.

He didn’t only help me to get clear on my vision, he also pushed me to take immediate action towards it. That’s when this homepage was created, in the nights of my tiny room in Guangzhou using my VPN to be able to use the internet. Besides that, I wasn’t so confident about I’d be able to achieve it.

My self-esteem had been holding me back to that point in terms of going for my dreams. Thanks to his words and his hundreds hours of coaching, he instilled so much certainty that I can do. He saw my potential and was certain of me achieving anything I want if I put in the work. I still remember vividly how he talked to me into my soul. And that’s when I realised I had anything needed to live an extraordinary life. Why live an ordinary life when you can also live an extraordinary life?

China is a challenge. I faced many challenges in China. From the culture, the language which I learned, to personal challenges I put myself into. Examples are my first half marathon on the Wall of China and playing a theatre role in front of TV and the whole university. These challenges made me grow and believe in my potential that I was unleashing through the weekly coaching sessions with my mentor.

China is the land of opportunities. Yes, the U.S. as well, but I got so many opportunities while living in China. I met my mentor. I met hundreds of people on events that are CEOs and entrepreneurs leading successful business. But most importantly, I had to privilege to be the assistant of the former president of Chile, Ricardo Lagos, and meet political leaders like Ban Ki Moon and many more.

This happened through another coincidences of my university asking if someone wanted to volunteer. Not many insights were given, it seemed like a normal event we were going to. And all of the sudden it turned out I’ll be the assistant for a week long summit for Ricardo Lagos. Unbelievable chances coming out of nowhere in China.

China is the future. This could be a post itself as one of my passions is macroeconomics and observing trends such as Artificial Intelligence. There is enough evidence and data that China is on the rise, eventually taking the position of the U.S. in the future. Read Ray Dalio’s book “The Changing World Order” to gain further insights on this.

Although I don’t want to go in this post into depth into business and politics, I just want to tell you that after arriving in China I saw unbelievable things. In 2017, I was already paying everywhere with only my phone, there were shops without cashiers, Robots in restaurants, everything automated. Drone shows that looked like a movie left me with my mouth open. And I could go on and on with the innovations I also saw in the “Chinese Silicon Valley” Shenzhen.

My experience one year later at the trade fair CES in Las Vegas with the BMW management board only justifies my points I’m making. Surely, all of these developments have downsides and political dimensions to it, however, elaborating on them would be too much now.

China is love. And there’s one funny but beautiful story I also want to tell. One of my reasons for going to China was to have more time for myself. As during my bachelors in Germany I was partying a lot, getting girls and everything we tend to do when we’re young, I had limited time for my personal development.

I had planned to stay single as I didn’t think I’ll be able to find anyone suitable for me. But the universe had a different beautiful plan for me. This shows that life is always happening for us, not to us, because we always get from life what we need. We just have to open our eyes and realise the beauty of these “coincidences”.

Months after arriving in China I met a German girl. Isn’t it funny me meeting a girl exactly from my home country. The result was that for the first time in my life I really fell in love for longer periods of time. I don’t want to get too much into detail about my dating life, however, I’m open about this fact from my side.

My plans were to stay alone and work on myself. I certainly worked TONS of hours on myself daily, but I also got to experience how beautiful love can be. And this gift from life shifted my perspective in regards to love and loving life.

Everything is possible, that was my main takeaway from China. I’m already looking forward to go back soon & give my eternal gratitude to this country.

What was one of your periods of your life you appreciate the most? I’d love to hear your story & share more with you about my learnings of China if you wish. Nonetheless, I wish you many more beautiful experiences. Live with joy & love, Chris! 🙂
