If you’re not applying the 80/20 rule in your life, you won’t achieve your dream life & you’re turning your back from your happiness & passion! Your role models of life exemplify this concept. Sadly, Avicii & Robbie Williams didn’t apply this rule.
I know this is a harsh statement, but I believe in it. Do you know what the 80/20 rule is? In other words: are you a perfectionist?
The 80/20 rule is about the concept of doing 20% of the work and achieving 80% of the outcome. Now here is where most of us fail: we try to get it perfect & achieve 100%. The problem with that is that in order to achieve 100%, we have to put in the other 80% of work. This means loss of time and speed that you can implement in progress. But why is it so crucial?
Let me tell you a short story… I’ve been wanting to start this homepage & live in my purpose for several years. But I always told myself: “You first have to acquire every skill, get the homepage & content perfect and know people in the industry.”. Can you relate to any area of your life where you think like that? Have you not taken a decision in your career because of being a perfectionist?
I went through years of learning (which you surely have to do, but I’ll tell you in a second what is a better approach) and regretting not going into my purpose. I kept telling myself that I have to get to 100%. However, what is holding us back from taking our step into our dream life full of joy and passion around what we do? – It is: INSECURITIES & LACK OF SELF-ESTEEM.
Social Media is accelerating this as we look at others’ accounts where everything seems perfect. Moreover, we tend to follow people who already are at the top & are not going through the struggles of failures & insecurities. We have to start coping with these two variables if we don’t want to remain stuck in our present reality.
My journey changed during another Tony Robbins event when I decided to take imperfect massive action towards my dream life & I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to go full of happiness to bed & open my eyes in the morning with a real passion to start a new day! But how can you reach this point? It’s real simple: self-awareness/ consciousness about yourself.
I was afraid to look bad and doing mistakes in front of others while pursuing my dream. Are you feeling this my friend? I bet you do! I went into my biggest fears & looked them straight into the eyes. My environment had indulged in my psychology the need for conformity/ love into my life. And if we keep satisfying this need, which all of us have, we’ll never be able to achieve happiness & progress towards our dreams.
I changed my mindset and perspective, starting to pursue my dream and real happiness & passion were the result in my daily life. I got obsessed with applying the 80/20 rule, seeing progress towards creating what I really want, while not doing it perfectly. It gives us speed for our personal life but also our career or businesses. Our role models in life are showcasing this.
Look up the story of your role model, you’ll see failures along the way. My role model is Tony Robbins. In the beginning of his career, he had planned an event expecting hundreds of people. 7 people showed up. This clearly was not perfect, however, he kept going & now he is changing lives of millions of people.
WE HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT IN ORDER TO CREATE YOUR DREAM LIFE, YOU GOT TO ACCEPT FAILURE & IMPERFECTIONISM INTO YOUR LIFE!
Perfectionism is only holding us back from progress and evolution. But: progress = happiness. That’s the reason why when we achieve certain goals, we get a short-time high on it and then feel empty. That’s the reason why successful people like Avicii & Robbie Williams sadly left our world on their will.
Avicii & Robbie Williams had it all as we would say. Fame, money, lifestyle, etc. However, they were not happy. Why? There are several reasons for sure but for a person committing suicide, one of them is the lack of a compelling future. These two amazing humans exemplify that achieving goals don’t make you happy. It’s the constant progress in your life. It’s about having a vision with purpose to strive for, more under the equation of happiness posted on: http://chrisdiwo.com (home).
And how can you achieve big progress in life? By applying the 80/20 rule and take massive action. It’ll give you speed but also fulfilment as you’re seeing yourself evolve. It’s essential to become a master of something in order to teach it, yes. However, we don’t have to change the world or be the best in the world in the beginning to live our purpose.
Sometimes it’s just about being 2% better or 2 steps ahead of other people in order to teach them the way. I certainly don’t have the audacity to coach 50 year olds in progressing in their careers. That would be wrong. However, I have the absolute certainty that I can help youngsters in their 20s to live a more purposeful & happy life.
So: what’s your area in your life that you’ve always wanted to conquer?
P.S.: By waiting to get it perfect (100%) while staying in your comfort zone without conquering your fears, you’ll never achieve anything. Let’s go 80/20 & progress towards a life that will make your (future) family happy.
